THE CROWN HAS BEEN WON BY ‘VINACCERO’ AT COPPI WINES AND TURI HAS ASCENDED THE PODIUM OF THE ITALIAN TOURING CLUB WINE GUIDE BOOK.
The number of medals awarded to the Coppi family has now reached the grand total of 91 medals in the last 15 years. The Italian recognition of Vinaccero (Aleatico grape variety), comes after recent mentions by Americans at the 2016 Decanter World for Serralto (White Malvasia)
The dedication to quality of Coppi Winery continues to be recognised through their growing award collection. The prestigious ‘Good Wines of Italy Guide’ by the Italian Touring Club has awarded the ‘VINACCERO’ the crown (PGI Puglia Aleatico – 2012 vintage), which is the maximum recognition award, that in this year’s competition, in Apulia involved 18 companies. Coppi is distinguished from all others for two reasons. Firstly, the Vinaccero is the only wine selected from the Aleatico grape variety. Usually, this indigenous variety is made into a sweet wine. Coppi, however, with their ‘wine wisdom’ has made this a wine to accompany the entire meal; it can be served with pappardelle in cod sauce, barley and porcini mushroom soup, and apple strudel.
THE SELECTION –
To give even more value to the recognition received by Coppi wines, we can look at the figures from the 14th edition of the Guide: approximately 26,000 samples were initially selected, which were then blind tasted by the various regional commissions. Further to this, only 700 wines were selected for the final, and accounted for just 2.69% of the total participating labels. The labels that obtained the crown from the ‘Good Wines of Italy’, represent only 1.88% of the total of all the wines tasted.
“Over the last 15 years we have won some 91 medals. We are flattered by the recognition from the Italian Touring Club. We have gone great distance in a short space of time”- says Doni Coppi – from the mention in Decanter World 2016 SERRALTO (IGP Puglia Malvasia), vintage 2015. “We are investing heavily in foreign markets and even expanding our range even more, while remaining as the Primitivo of Gioia del Colle, which is our pride and tradition. The awards encourage us to continue in this direction”.
THE AWARD –
The presentation of the ‘Crowns’ certificates will be held during the Merano Wine Festival (5-8 November). In the area of the Italian Wine shop, organised by Wines of Italy Guide Book (Italian Touring Club), there will be the Vinaccero IGP Puglia Aleatico produced by Casa Vinicola COPPI.
